Fort Boyard

In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean lies a fort.  Located between the Île-d’Aix and the Île d’Oléron , it is 61 meters long, 31 meters wide, and its walls are 20 meters high and can host a garrison of 250 men (pics). Built under Napoleon to protect the  the arsenal of Rochefort against invasion from the British.

Used as a prison in the late 1800’s, it was then abandoned.  It has been, since 1990, after renovations, the site for a game show called “Fort Boyard” which was adapted in several countries including the UK.  It is a Fear Factor kind of game and is now hosting associations and celebrities.  Even Dee Dee Bridgewater participated.
